I was mowing my lawn the other day, and I just happened to look over at the side of my house.
I've lived here 5 1/2 years.
And I have never noticed how cool this pine tree is that sits on the edge of my property.
I spend a fair amount of time in my backyard too.
But my focus must always be on other things.
Mowing the lawn, following the path of my mower as I watch the lines appear.
Enjoying a fire in the fire pit, staring into the flames.
Sitting on my patio, lost in thought, thinking about all of the stuff I have to get done.
When I'm so focused like that, I fail to notice the beauty of the world around me.
Granted, there are times when it's good to fail to notice things.
Like the cobwebs in the corners of our rooms.
Or the dust around the windowsills and picture frames.
But when we don't look up, don't stop to pause and appreciate the uniqueness of our world, that's when we miss out.
I challenge all of you today to look around you.
Really look.
In your home where you follow the same routine every day.
On that drive that you've driven a million times.
Where you work when the days seem endless.
Find something you've never noticed before.
Take a moment to notice the depth and context it brings to the space around you.
I bet you'll find a lot of things if you really look..
And maybe then you'll start to see life a little differently too.
With a little more wonder. A little more appreciation for the simple beauty in it.
Don't keep going through life on autopilot.
There are so many amazing things to see in this world.
Notice them.
