My cat knocked over the recycling bin in my kitchen the other day.
I came home to find the contents of it strewn across my kitchen.
Soup cans, empty plastic containers and paper towel rolls.
I wondered how she even knocked it over.
The bin stands several feet taller than my cat.
She's pretty resourceful though.
When she wants something, most of the time she can make it happen.
I just stood there for a minute, assessing the mess.
All I could do was shake my head. And pick up the pieces.
Some of the other things that made me shake my head this week:
The fact that my Christmas tree is still up and it's February
The laundry I left in the washer and forgot about for two days
The bag that I haven't yet unpacked from our trip to UW-LaCrosse last weekend
The night I forgot to close the garage door and it stayed open until morning
I could go on, but I think you get the idea.
Life is full of little things for us to take care of - and big things too.
We have to prioritize our time and sometimes the little things are the ones that slip.
The house stays a bit messier than we'd like.
Laundry takes a few more days to get done.
We forget stuff. Our brains are full.
Sometimes we just have to shake our head at it all.
And try to smile. Laugh about it even.
Because the alternative would be to let all of the little things become big ones.
And then we'd be in real trouble.
So today I'm going to take my Christmas tree down.
I'm going to unpack that bag.
Maybe finally fold that laundry.
I'm going to smile while I do it.
And then I'll shake my head at this beautiful, sometimes awful, but mostly amazing life.
