I'm not Irish. But Ireland is high on my list of places I want to travel to in my life.
The castles, the lush green countryside, the beer, and the great people. What's not to love?
And the language is so much fun! They have super cool words like blarney, mucker, and snattered.
Oh, and shenanigans. That one's my favorite.
Shenanigans by definition means silly or high-spirited behavior. Mischief, you could call it.
When was the last time you created a little mischief?
As we get older, it can feel like there's no room for silliness in our lives.
We're so consumed by the responsibility of it all that we forget that play and fun is critical to our overall health and well-being.
In fact, when we're burdened by the heavy weight of life, that's when we need shenanigans the most.
We need friends who bring out the silly in us, who we can make mischief with.
I have those kind of friends. And I'm so very grateful for them.
In fact, I'm writing this post from Las Vegas, on a girls trip with a few of them. Some of us are here to run (5K's and a half marathon oh my!). The others are here to cheer us on and stand in the rain at the finish line.
Shenanigans for sure!
We've lived a lot of life and come with some pretty cool stories. We build each other up, and inspire each other to be our best selves.
And we know how important it is to make time for fun and friendship.
Even though none of us live in the same state, we try to get together at least once or twice a year.
Because spending time with great friends is food for our souls.
Shenanigans has sort of become our motto now.
When we are together, at any given moment, one of us will look at each other randomly, smile and say "Shenanigans!"
This is then typically followed by a hug, and a story shared that makes us laugh until our cheeks hurt.
Shenanigans isn't just a fun word for us.
It's a sentiment that expresses how much joy we find in being on this journey together.
And that's priceless.
As you are going about your day today, don't forget to make time for fun.
I know it sounds cliché, but life really is too short. You blink and a year goes by.
Get out and dance.
Sing your heart out.
Take that trip.
Reach out to a friend to reminisce about that "one time"
Find the joy in the little, silly moments in life.
Smile like your life depends on it. Because it sort of does.
Gotta run.
Shenanigans await!
