Sometimes I think it takes an entire lifetime to find our sense of direction.
Maybe longer than that even.
Left or right?
Straight ahead or veer diagonal and take the shortcut through the alley?
Pause, step backward and re-route ourselves, or keep going forward even when we are unsure of our next move?
So many choices.
So many directions we can take.
For some, the path is the same every day- the same route, the same people, the same places.
It's comfortable and easy and there's very little risk of getting lost.
But for others, the path extends beyond our line of vision, an infinite road that calls to us.
Sometimes that trip to a new place changes our lives.
Sometimes that left turn takes us to a little hole in the wall place where we meet people who challenge our way of thinking.
Sometimes that extra block forward ends up at a restaurant with the most amazing food and our favorite music that we sing along to at the bar.
And sometimes getting lost is the best way to find ourselves.
Ironically, when I'm driving around my hometown, I often get my left and right mixed up. If I had a dollar for every time I've turned the wrong way, I'd have a few dollars...
This is why I'm grateful that, at the end of the day, we don't have to always know which way to go.
We can change direction at any time - reset our course, go the opposite way, end up somewhere new.
It's all part of the journey.
I'm trusting my sense of direction more and more as I get older. Going on more adventures, meeting more people who add layers to my life.
And it's so good.
All of it.
Every single turn.
Even the wrong ones. 😉
