Reset, Recharge, Refocus

Reset.

Recharge.

Refocus.

As many times as you need to.

I read that somewhere, and it inspired me.

I try to live by it.

There's so much hype around New Year's Eve and the opportunity for a fresh start.

We boast about grand resolutions for monumental changes we'll make in our lives in the new year.

And most fall off the table in the first few months.

I used to make big resolutions too. Until a few years ago, around the time I started writing my blog.

I realized that it was so much more achievable for me to set small goals throughout the year that I could actually accomplish.

Small goals that build on each other and add up to something big.

It might sound hard to some of you, especially when life passes us by most weeks like a whirlwind.

Where is the time to reset and recharge? How do I carve it out?

It's not always easy.

But you just have to do it.

Even if that means five minutes in the car on your way to an appointment.

Or two minutes in the morning while your coffee is brewing.

Pause and breathe and reflect.

What is one thing that you've been wanting to do that you can start doing?

How can you break it down into small goals, things you can achieve on a weekly or monthly basis?

If it's learning a new skill, can you find a YouTube video series and watch it for 15 minutes a week?

If it's getting into better shape, can you walk for 10 minutes 3 times a week?

Or if it's writing a book, can you write 500 words a week - that adds up to 26,000 words a year. That book will be written in 2-3 years no problem!

Once you get started, a little at a time, I think you'll find that you'll be motivated to do more. It will become a habit and your life will shift around the changes.

You'll wonder where you found the time.

Guess what? It was there all along, you've just started prioritizing it differently.

The small accomplishments will build your confidence and desire to succeed.

You'll feel good about yourself and how you're spending your time.

And when things start to veer off course - reset, recharge, refocus again.

For those of you who are still cynical about this approach, thinking about all of those stressors in life that suck our energy, I feel you. When there is so much to worry about, how can we disconnect enough to accomplish more than life demands of us?

When I'm tucked away writing every week, the worry I have for my son's health, for their futures, for my career, doesn't just disappear.

I struggle to force them out of my head every single time.

But I do.

Because I know that I'm a better mom, a better human, a stronger version of me, when I take this time to do something that helps me feel purposeful in a whole different way.

Taking care of ourselves, in every sense of the word, physically, mentally, emotionally, is the best way for us to be able to take care of the other people in our lives who need us.

Find time this week to reset, recharge and refocus.

Set those little goals that keep you moving forward.

I know you have it in you.
