Fall is my favorite season.
The air is crisp, the leaves are changing colors, I can wear boots and jeans...
There's just something about it that makes me happy.
It's the start of the season when I can snuggle up by the fireplace with a cozy blanket and a good movie.
It's when I can hear the sounds of the high school football game from my backyard on Friday nights.
(That one's bittersweet, bringing back memories of watching Ryder play.)
And it's when I can go for a walk or a run and watch the world transform.
Every day the trees change a little more. A few more leaves turn colors.
Then they start to fall to the ground or drop onto the street, sometimes creating slippery obstacles for me to navigate.
It's almost like watching a flip book in slow motion over the course of the season.
I think it's the combination of that transformation and being able to be comfortable and warm in my sweatshirts and cozy blankets that seals the deal for me.
Not to mention the boots and jeans (check out my post about that from a few years ago).
I've grown to a point in my life where comfort is important.
In winter, it's too cold. We have to wear so many layers and cover up our heads and hands, making it hard to think and feel.
In the summer, it can be too hot. We sweat and the sun glares in our eyes.
Spring is too wet and there's mud everywhere. If you even get one (am I right Wisconsin?).
Some days I wonder why I even live here.
But if I didn't live here, I know I'd miss the fall.
I'd miss that shift from summer to fall and the smell in the air.
I'd miss those nights when I light a fire in my fireplace and find peace in the flames.
And I'd miss the chance to watch the world transform.
I think that's worth it.
Ask me again in winter, though....
