Every time I travel to a new place, I bring home a magnet or a coffee mug.
Lots of times both.
My refrigerator and my cupboards are filled with memories.
It can be hard to choose which mug to use in the mornings.
Should I go back to Seattle today?
Punta Cana?
Key West?
Zion National Park?
The San Juan Islands?
My newest mug is from Roatan, Honduras, which was one of the ports we stopped at on our cruise. And where I got to hold a baby sloth (their fur feels like straw by the way).
I'm drinking out of that mug as I write this.
I've reached a phase in my life where seeing more of the world is important to me.
It's almost ironic because I worked in travel for nearly 22 years and rarely took a vacation during that time.
Life is different now, though. My perspective has shifted, priorities are more clear.
I realize more and more that life isn't about the work we do, or how many hours we spend doing it.
It isn't even about the money we make or how much of it we have.
It's about the places we go and the people we go there with.
The sunsets and the sunrises, the laughter, the tears, the hugs.
Maybe most importantly the hugs!
For those of you who feel like you can't travel, I'll remind you that travel doesn't have to mean far away.
Travel can be across your state, even an hour down the road.
Just away.
Away from the things that cause you stress.
Away from the worries and the logistics of life.
Away from the things that take away your smile.
Go there. As often as you can. And with the people you love.
And maybe even bring home a coffee mug or a magnet to prove it.
