Life is a Special Occasion

I received a set of crystal wine glasses a few years back as a gift at a holiday party.

Each one a different color.

Vivid gem shades - emerald, amethyst, sapphire, and garnet.

They were so pretty I decided to just leave them in the box in the cupboard in my kitchen.

Guess I was afraid they might get broken.

Or that I didn't host fancy enough parties to use glasses like that.

So, they sat in the cupboard at my apartment for several years.

Then I bought my house.

As I was unpacking my dishes and setting up the kitchen, I came across that box.

I took one of the glasses out, admiring the beautiful color.

I had nearly forgotten I even owned them.

I went to put them in my corner cabinet with the glass doors, figuring we could at least enjoy the colors on display.

And then I realized something...why even own them if I'm not really enjoying them?

What special occasion was I waiting for?

That day, I decided that in my new house there would be new rules.

These would become my "everyday" wine glasses. And would be used by my guests too.

Now when I have friends over and we enjoy a glass of wine together, we first choose which color glass we want.

The same goes for my nice dishes.

And the crystal bowl that I got years ago at my wedding but never took out of the box.

Used that one when I had chips and salsa the other day.

The simple get-togethers with friends, dinners with just me and my boys, and even when I'm hanging out by myself.

Those moments are special.

The last few years have been eye opening for me.

Now more than ever I realize just how important it is to find joy in the little things in life.

The connections we make with the people who are closest to us.

The ordinary moments with our families.

The opportunities we have to reflect and learn and grow.

All of these are cause for celebration.

And all of them are special occasions.

In fact, LIFE is a special occasion.

Are you treating it like one?
