On our last girl's trip, the clock in our hotel suite wasn't working.
Perpetually stuck at two minutes to six.
As if time had stopped.
Which was kind of ironic, because I wish it could sometimes.
Especially when I'm traveling.
When I'm traveling, I want to savor every moment, without thinking about all of the responsibilities I have back home.
I want to free my brain of all of the things that usually fill it up, the worries, the stress, the logistics.
I want to live in the moment, as if I have all of the time in the world.
I literally want time to stop.
I can think of other situations where I'd like to stop time too.
When I'm cozy on my couch during a thunderstorm
While my son is giving me a big, long hug before he heads back to college
When I'm sitting around a campfire with my family and friends
During a call with my team where we are celebrating a successful project
When the house is clean (can it just stay that way for 10 minutes, seriously?!)
How cool would it be if we did have that power?
If we could wave a hand and stop time for even a few minutes.
If we could freeze things exactly as they are, locking in those precious memories.
It might be a dangerous power though. What's that famous quote? "With great power, comes great responsibility?"
Maybe I don't want any more responsibility right now. I have more than I need!
Fun to think about anyway.
I guess for now, the best we can do is really be present in those precious moments. To shut out everything else and just BE.
It's harder than it sounds.
But if we try really hard, we can relax our brain and our bodies enough to sit back, look around us and truly enjoy life.
Enjoy the sound of that thunderstorm against the roof, the feel of our children's arms around us, the pride that comes with a job well done, and the smell of a clean house.
Or...
We could take the batteries out of all of our clocks.
That could be fun too! 😉
