"The rain is gone..."
Got you singing that song in your head now, don't I?
That's not actually what I'm going to blog about today though.
Today I'm going to tell you about how much more clearly I can actually SEE out of my kitchen windows.
Why can I see so much more clearly, you ask?
Because I finally made the time to wash them.
After four and a half years in this house.
After countless times that I looked out those windows and wished the dirty spots and streaks would magically go away.
It took me about 10 minutes once I put my mind to it.
Now I didn't go crazy and clean every single window in my house. Or dust my shelves or picture frames.
But I did wash the three windows in the kitchen and the windows on my front door.
Inside and out.
What a difference it made! The sunlight seems brighter, the grass in my backyard greener and more vibrant.
As if wiping away the dirt and the grime gave me a brand new view of the world.
I thought about why it took me so long to clean them.
I think I put it off because I thought it would be harder. Especially on the outside.
But it wasn't.
All it took was me dragging a chair from my patio set and positioning it just right so I could reach high enough.
Then figuring out which way I needed to move the screen so I could get to both sides of the window. It resisted at first, but after a gentle push, slid out of the way.
The rest was easy. A little glass cleaner, some paper towels and a tiny bit of elbow grease.
It was very satisfying to see how much dirt wiped away as I worked.
And even more satisfying to stand back and survey the results.
I wish I would have done this years ago.
Wiped away the dirt and the grime, polished until the streaks disappeared.
I think we all could use a little window washing in our lives.
A little elbow grease to remove the dirt that's clouding our view.
We just have to get past the fear that it will be really hard.
That we might not be able to do it.
Because we can.
Sometimes it takes a gentle push, but once we put our minds to it, it actually doesn't take long at all.
And all of a sudden, we can see clearly through the windows of our lives.
The world is vibrant again.
Full of possibilities.
Now when I walk past my kitchen window, I pause and smile.
Maybe I'll make it a habit to clean those windows every couple of years.
Being able to see clearly is so worth it.
