It's been said that the people that you surround yourself with shape your life and the way you see yourself. Do you feel that's true?
I know I feel stronger, more confident, and definitely happier when I am with people who build me up, who I can talk to about anything and be my true self with.
You might wonder how you find those type of people.
They're out there, but you have to put in a little work to find them sometimes.
They might be already in your circle and you don't even know it.
Have you spent time truly getting to know your friends?
Their hopes and dreams and what they want to accomplish in life?
How they feel about where they're headed?
Try asking deep questions, not just "how are you?" or "what did you have for dinner?"
Questions like this:
What makes you feel accomplished?
Do you believe in second chances?
What would you tell your younger self if you could talk to him/her?
If you could replay an event in your life, what would it be?
What's the greatest lesson you've learned in life?
Take the time to get to know the people that are closest to you. On a whole new level.
We so often put up walls, even with our closest friends. We don't lean into our humanity, for fear of being judged or disappointing them.
But by showing people who we really are and living into our most authentic selves, we open ourselves up to a whole new level of friendship.
That's how people see and understand our greatness.
So go ahead...ask those deep questions.
Really listen to the answers. Lean in to the conversation.
See what you learn, about them and about yourself.
And watch how it shapes your life.
