When I get my nails done, I usually choose a nice, stable, solid color.
There's a beautiful purplish wine that I gravitate toward most of the time.
The ladies at the salon already have it on the table for me when I come in.
Dependable.
Reliable.
Goes with everything.
That's how I roll.
It makes me feel safe.
But every once in awhile, I break out of my comfort zone. Especially when life gets to be too heavy, too busy, too...everything.
Its times like that when I add a little sparkle.
I have them overlay specks of glittery gold and silver on top of the color.
Just enough to shimmer and shine when I move my hands.
Which tends to be a lot, especially when I'm talking about something I really care about.
That little bit of sparkle reminds me that no matter what, I can find the fun in life.
I can choose to see the humor in a night where nothing is working out the way I planned.
Or laugh at myself when I forget my (insert any number of items here) yet again.
I can embrace new places and experiences with an open-mind and a fresh perspective.
I can look for the positive in every interaction. And if I don't see it, I can create it.
I can choose to add a little sparkle.
Or I can go to that salon and stick with my solid, stable, color.
I can let life be boring and busy, and overwhelming most of the time.
But that's not nearly as much fun.
My fingernails serve as a reminder.
A shiny, sparkly reminder that this life is a gift.
A beautiful, messy, complicated gift to be fair.
But a gift nonetheless.
And we should choose to find the joy in it.
