Resolutions

Writer's picture: Michelle L. SmithMichelle L. Smith

As we come to the end of 2018, I find it hard to believe that I've been blogging now for almost an entire year. After so many years of thinking about writing in a more formal way, I finally made it happen.

And every week, I know that Sunday morning is my blogging time. I've resolved to hold that time sacred, or at least to ensure that I write my post early if something is going to interfere.

I may eventually go on to write bigger things than just this blog that I share with a pretty small audience. I don't have a clear vision on how this will play out, but I know for sure that I am resolving to keep writing.

Many of you are probably thinking about the resolutions you'll make as 2018 turns into 2019.

As you look back on this past year, what do you want to do differently to be more positive, more productive, and happier in your own skin?

There are the typical resolutions - lose weight, eat better, take more vacations, etc.

But, how about a few of these?

Resolve to:

  • Love yourself even when you've made a bad decision

  • Forgive someone who has hurt you and let go of that grudge you've been holding

  • Give yourself permission to relax and just do nothing

  • Start every day with a positive thought

  • Put yourself in your kids' shoes and see things from their perspective

  • Hug at least one person every single day

  • Tell the people in your life that are so important to you how much you love them...as often as you can

  • Only post positive, constructive thoughts on social media

  • Build people up, instead of bringing them down

  • Smile more, even when you don't feel like smiling

  • Share your struggles with others and let them help you

  • Laugh at yourself and learn from your mistakes

I could keep going, but I'd probably start to lose some of you if this post gets too long. You get the idea.

Make 2019 your best year yet, by doing what you can to see the beauty in this imperfectly perfect life. Appreciate the little things that collectively make up your world.

And above all else, resolve every day to be grateful...for being alive, for all of the comforts you have in life, and for the ability to just be here and enjoy it.

Thank you for being on this journey with me this past year and for faithfully reading my blog.

Happy New Year!!!
