Time.
The cadence of our lives is dictated by the concept of 60 minutes in every hour, 24 hours in every day, 365 days in every year (except leap year of course!).
We plan our days by it, we manage our schedules around it, and we all have a finite amount of it.
It's both brilliant and mind-blowing at the same time if you really stop to think about it.
As I sit here, in my wonderful new home, with a hot cup of coffee and my cat sleeping peacefully next to me, I reflect back on the last 43.5 years of life.
Have I spent all of those years wisely?
Were all of my choices the right ones?
The answers to those questions are tough. I've made some pretty hard choices in my life. Some of them were absolutely the right ones. Others, not so much. But all of them shaped who I am today.
I think about how much time I have left on this earth, and the life I still want to live.
I want the next 30+ years to be the best ones yet.
I know I'm the only one who is responsible for finding the ways to make that time count. I need to fill it with the things that move me forward, make me a better person, and help me inspire others.
If the pace of the last 43.5 years is any indicator, the next 30 are going to go by in a flash.
Time seems to travel at warp-speed now, with so many responsibilities to fill our days, distractions to waste our hours, and life to consume our minutes.
Think I'll start by planning a few outings with friends, some more time with my family and a critical review of my work schedule to make sure I've got enough time built in to maintain my sanity.
Then I'll pull out my bucket list, pick one or two things from it and actually schedule them into my life. Stop talking and start doing, right?
It's up to me to create my best life.
One second.
One minute.
One hour.
One day.
One year.... at a time.
Here's to the next 30 years - can't wait to see how they play out!
