The Long and Winding Road

Some days this journey takes my breath away.

It's been a week of memorable moments and they have made me reflect on life and the different paths each one of us takes.

One of my dearest friends got married last weekend.  It was her second wedding and the ceremony was incredibly touching and beautiful.  As I watched her commit to her husband, I thought about the long and winding road they have been on.  The twists and turns, the sharp corners, and the obstacles in their path have shaped their relationship.  They were meant to go on this adventure together and end up exactly where they are today.

At the wedding, friends and family in all stages of life were gathered to celebrate.  I thought about how amazing it is that some of us are so far down the road and others are just beginning their journey.

I watched my boys as they danced and laughed and the look of pure joy and innocence on their faces made my heart overflow.  We danced together and shared moments that are rare for us in the day to day hustle and bustle of life.

I will always remember how it felt to watch them and dance with them that night.  These boys have barely begun their journey in life and I can only hope that I've given them enough guidance to help them navigate the twists and turns as they go.

On that very same day, my niece gave birth to her first child, a perfect little girl.   She just got married last year and is starting out her life and creating her family.  When I hold that beautiful miracle of a baby, I see the future in her eyes.

They are only a few miles into their journey as a family and have lots of twists and turns ahead of them.  But, I know they will make their way together and hold each other's hands as they travel down this long and winding road.

And today, I am writing this blog from one of the most special places in my life, surrounded by people I love and listening to them laugh and talk about life.  I can't remember a time where I have felt more centered, happy and at peace.  It makes me smile.

I've got miles to go still in this life, and I know there will be many more twists, turns and obstacles.  There will be roadblocks and stressful moments, days when I get angry and want to cry and give up, and then days where things feel right again.

It's all part of the process and how it's meant to be on this journey.

Whether you are just starting out, or nearing the end of the road, it's all an adventure.

Enjoy it, learn from it, and every once in awhile, pause and look back to see just how far you have come.
